In 1982, PHOCH ’91 was still running, the venue being billed as “Canberra’s longest running theatre restaurant”.
The supper show, War to War had finished and needed to be replaced by something else.
Enter a new show - Bloodlines.
Admittedly, this was thrown together at the last minute, but it was quite funny and moderately successful during a short run of about two months.
Me as pianist and MD, with a cast of Tamara Ross, Doug Williams and Jim Hutchins. Mad-cap comedy and silliness, with a few serious moments.
I would sometimes play Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata as an encore. In retrospect, that is hardly an encore piece! But it seemed to work at the time.
We worked hard in those days. The dinner show (PHOCH ’91), with a short break to re-set the stage and then the supper show (Bloodlines). Basically, 8pm - 2am performing, three nights a week.
