Ingrid Haebler (1929–2023) |
The internationally renowned pianist Ingrid Haebler died on Sunday.
The virtuoso was especially praised for her Mozart style.
The SN learned this from their circle of friends. Growing up in Poland, she received her first piano lessons from her mother. At the beginning of the Second World War, the family moved to Salzburg, where the eleven-year-old made her debut with a piece by Mozart and her own composition.
She studied in Vienna, Salzburg, Geneva and Paris. After two prizes at the international piano competition in Geneva and first prize at the ARD competition in 1954, her world career began.
Famed for Mozart interpretations, Haebler was especially praised for her Mozart interpretations. Long before historical performance practice, she discovered the fortepiano of Mozart's time for her style. In addition to her extensive, worldwide concert activities - including many summers at the Salzburg Festival - she taught from 1969 for two years at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. In 2022 Decca released a box with 58 CDs: all recordings since 1953 confirm their musical virtuosity.
