Queanbeyan artist wins $10,000 metal prize

Queanbeyan artist Larah Nott has been awarded the Robert Foster Metal Prize, winning $10,000.

Nott’s winning work was Sake Set number 2, 2024, which was selected unanimously as the winner by judges, Brian Parkes, from Adelaide’s Jam Factory, Ewan Mceoin from the National Gallery of Victoria, Rohan Nicol from the University of Tasmania, and Gretel Harrison, director of F!nk + Co, the company founded by her late partner, the legendary artist Robert Foster.

Praising Nott’s work, the judges said: “We loved the way this work draws from the traditions of metal craft while offering a clear conversation about the role of technology in the future of metals, bridging the hand to the digital, software and ancient tools.

“These pieces have gravitas, weight, poise and delicacy.”

Adelaide artist Jenny Johnstone was selected as the emerging artist and receives $3000 for her work, Vessels 2024.

The Robert Foster Metal Prize, at Craft + Design Canberra, North Building, until December 14.
